Madelyn - historical novels - a difficult task

Madelyn

I joined the group as a result of Rosemary's meetings. I have e-published a novel set in the 10th century called My Lady of Wessex and am now embarked - slowly - on a new one called Such a Love. It is set in the 11th century.
Writing historical novels is a difficult task as one needs to do a lot of research. My stories grew out of my teaching career as a York professor in Medieval History. Many of my characters are real people. The most difficult task is to find the right balance between drama and dialogue and the historical details. Careful editing is essential. The Writing Group has been very helpful in getting me to curtail the historical lectures and concentrate on the characters and their lives.
